Our History

The first stones of the Château de Cazenac date back to the Middle Ages. Originally built as a keep, it was later equipped with a watchtower to ensure its defense.

At the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, the castle was endowed with a second artillery tower to the east, pierced with loopholes for the use of culverins.

At the top of the dormers, pediments sculpted with sun rays pay homage to Louis XIV.

From the 17th century to the Revolution, a facade with large windows was built on the south side, connecting the two towers and transforming the Château de Cazenac into a pleasure property.

Owned by the d’Abzac and Roffignac families, the castle was subsequently sold to several individuals who transformed it in the 20th and 21st centuries. Each family contributed to the structure, making it a haven of beauty and peace.

Château de Cazenac

The new Cazenac, while remaining a private castle, has been transformed into a high-end reception venue with the comfort of modern materials.

Extensions like the bright Orangerie were built to the west, in harmony with the styles of the 14th and 16th centuries, facing the lime tree avenue.

ONCE THERE WAS A GREEN DOMAINE,

IN THE HEART OF THE PÉRIGORD NOIR

Our region

Renowned for its verdant valleys and exceptional heritage, the Périgord is one of the most visited destinations in France. Divided into several distinct regions - the White Périgord with its limestone, the Green Périgord with numerous meadows and forests, and the Purple Périgord with its renowned vineyards - it captivates with its natural diversity. Our estate is nestled in the heart of the Black Périgord, famous for its vast dark oak forests and rich historical and architectural heritage. From prehistoric times to the majestic residences of the 14th to 19th centuries, including its 557 bell towers, this region is nicknamed the land of 1001 castles. Sarlat, a city of art and history, with its medieval and Renaissance center, and the picturesque surrounding villages offer a true architectural fresco. Gastronomy is another essential aspect of the Périgord, with its treasures such as black truffles, foie gras, and AOP walnuts. The pure waters of the Dordogne, which meander for 483 km from the Massif Central to the Atlantic, complete this idyllic picture.

Our local products

In the heart of the Périgord region, a great diversity of products are cultivated with passion from generation to generation, including walnuts, chestnuts, strawberries, vines, and black truffles, which contribute to its reputation. Viticulture, with over 12,000 hectares of vineyards around Bergerac, completes this authentic picture with its Monbazillac or Pécharmant appellations.

At the Domaine de Cazenac, seasonal produce from the vegetable garden can be discovered in our shop, as well as artistic creations from the workshops and local products, all blending in a refined setting.

Ecology: a necessary quest for balance

At the Domaine, we implement several measures to enhance our self-sufficiency and protect our environment.
To support the biodiversity of our local produce, we have constructed a large rainwater reservoir that collects and irrigates our green spaces. Wastewater is treated naturally in reed bed systems, which purify the water before it is released back into nature.
In terms of energy, our fully renovated heating system operates on wood pellets for both heating and hot water.
Additionally, electric vehicle charging stations are available on-site for all visitors.
